OUR MISSION

1) to demonstrate and promote the value of Orff Schulwerk;

2) to support and provide professional development opportunities;

3) to align applications of the Orff Schulwerk approach with the changing needs of American society.

THE ORFF APPROACH

Carl Orff (1895-1982) was a German composer known particularly for his operas and dramatic works.

He and his colleague, Gunild Keetman, developed an approach to music education which has inspired a pedagogy taught around the globe.

The Orff Approach to music education is experiential and process oriented. It is for all children, not just the most musically

or intellectually gifted and encompasses aural, visual and kinesthetic learners.

CAO Statement on Black Lives Matter

Capital Area Orff, along with AOSA, denounces the systemic racial inequities and inequalities of our country as we evolve in our awareness of who Capital Area Orff is and what that represents. The recent actions that have taken place in our nation have hurt our communities and cause pain and a lack of trust in one another. We respect and affirm human dignity. Black lives matter.

We acknowledge that historically our education system has undermined and underserved the black community. As Capital Area Orff, we believe that when we know better, we do better. As educators, it is our duty and responsibility to uphold and empower our students and the communities we serve.

We would like to share some resources to help our educators during these challenging times. Please let us know if you have specific needs we can address.
